MIA’s Chief Executive Officer Peter Bolech visited the Santa Marija ta’ Bir Miftuh Chapel in Gudja where Din l-Art Helwa are currently restoring the frescoes of the medieval Chapel.
Martin Galea, President of Din l-Art Helwa and Roberta de Angelis, the conservator commissioned to restore the frescoes, explained to Mr Bolech the importance of the chapel and the unique features of the frescoes that were unfortunately buried behind layers of paint through the centuries.
The Bir Miftuh chapel is a significant landmark of the country’s medieval history. MIA’s willingness to restore and upkeep the chapel reflects the company’s commitment towards supporting Malta’s heritage and culture. Peter Bolech said that MIA has the beautiful chapel of Bir Miftuh much at heart, having “adopted” it ever since the company came into being twelve years ago and financed the entire restoration project.
At the end of the tour, Mr Bolech planted a tree in an olive grove being nursed near the chapel which will eventually serve as a place of recreation within the peaceful and quiet surroundings.
