New Direct Flights by Meridiana
4/4/2006

New Direct Flights to MIA by Meridiana

As from 1st June 2006, the main Italian low-fare airline Meridiana will commence a new service to Malta.  Meridiana will be operating two direct flights a week from Aeroporto di Bologna to Malta International Airport operating every Thursday and Sunday and using 165-seater MD 82 aircraft.  Meridiana has announced extremely competitive low fares starting from 29 euros for a one-way flight (excluding taxes).

This new service is the direct result of MIA’s marketing efforts to attract new airlines to operate to Malta and after successfully concluding negotiations with the Meridiana.  This has in turn strengthened the cooperation between MIA and Aeroporto de Bologna and through this link Maltese travellers will have more options, at very low fares, to travel further in Italy and beyond, particularly for week-end breaks in the Emilia-Romagna region.

In a statement issued in Italy to announce the service, Meridiana expressed its satisfaction that it has reached an agreement with MIA. “For the first time in more than 40 years, Meridiana will be linking with this primary international destination.  The flights are ideal both for weekly holidays as well as week-end breaks to enjoy nature, underwater activities or to study English, an option nowadays taken up by many Italian tourists” the statement said.

Flights depart from Aeroporto di Bologna on Thursdays and Sundays at 13.15 hrs and arrive in Malta at 15.00 hrs. Flights depart from MIA at 15.40 hrs and arrive in Bologna at 17.30 hrs.  Bookings and further information are available online – www.meridiana.com – or by contacting the airline’s call centre in Italy on +39 0789 52682.
