Low-fare Norwegian to Operate to Malta
10/10/2007

Norwegian Air Shuttle will commence operations to Malta from Oslo in April 2008.  The announcement was made after the low-fares airline successfully concluded negotiations with Malta International Airport and the Malta Tourism Authority.  Norwegian AS will be operating two flights a week, every Tuesday and Saturday, departing from the Norwegian capital at 14.05 and returning from Malta at 19.10.  Prices will start from Lm 29 ( 67.55) one-way including taxes and charges.

Norwegian AS is one of Europe’s leading low fare airlines. It commenced operations in September 2002 with four domestic routes and six B737-300 aircraft. Today, Norwegian has 31 aircrafts and an additional 53 new B737-800’s on order from early next year. It offers a flight network of 128 routes to 76 destinations from Norway, Sweden and Poland.

“We are very proud to include Malta in our already extensive European network” said Daniel Skjeldam, Chief Commercial Officer of Norwegian. “Malta has always been a favourite destination for Scandinavians and we realised that there is a great demand, judging from the numerous enquiries we receive from our customers. We believe that with low prices and a direct flight, it will be a success”. Mr Skjeldam added that Norwegian is collaborating with the Malta Tourism Authority and MIA to promote the route in Norway and he expressed his appreciation for the support that both entities have shown throughout.

MIA’s CEO Peter Bolech said that this was an important step towards increasing the passenger flow to Malta, especially from the Scandinavian market which has not been sufficiently tapped. The new operation was made possible through the increasing efforts of MIA’s Commercial Department to attract new airlines to Malta and the close cooperation with MTA as key players in the tourism industry.

Bookings for the route may be made online as from today, through the airline’s website www.norwegian.no
