Nikolaus Gretzmacher graduated with a degree in Economics from the University of Vienna. He joined the Business Development team at Vienna International Airport in 2003, and was later appointed Head of Strategic Planning and Shareholding Management within the same company. In 2007, he completed his Executive MBA and was appointed Deputy Chief of Staff at the Ministry of Transportation, Innovation and Technology under the administration of Werner Faymann. In 2009, Mr Gretzmacher assumed the position of Chief of Staff to the State Secretary Josef Ostermayer, at the Austrian Federal Chancellery. In October 2011, he returned to Vienna Airport as Senior Vice President of Operations. Mr Gretzmacher was appointed Chairman of the Board on the 27th of November 2013.
With a background in hospitality, Alan Borg joined Malta International Airport in 2007 leading the airline marketing team. During this time, he played a pivotal role in leading the airline marketing team to achieve new milestones, most notably the expansion of the airport’s network by attracting several new airlines to Malta. Mr Borg was also responsible for the complete overhaul of the airport’s VIP product, La Valette. In 2010, Mr Borg was entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing the development of SkyParks Business Centre, which was the first project of its kind for the company. Mr Borg was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Malta International Airport in February 2015.
Karl Dandler attended the University of Economy in Vienna between 1977 and 1982. His career in the aviation industry started when he joined Austrian Airline as Head of Control. Between 2003 and 2012, Mr Dandler was seconded to Ukraine International Airlines as Financial Executive and Deputy President. Following a nine-year stint here, he joined Kosice International Airport as Chief Executive Officer; a role which he held for three years. Karl Dandler was appointed member of the Board of Directors of Malta International Airport in 2014 and has held the position of Chief Financial Officer within the same company since 2015.
Dr Cory Greenland holds a Bachelor of Communications, a Master in European Studies and a Doctor of Laws. He is a Notary Public and Human Resources Consultant, and lectures in employment relations and law at the University of Malta. He has served on several Boards and Committees, including at NGO level, and currently holds the position of Non-Executive Director of the Malta International Airport Board of Directors. He was appointed member to this board in February 2015.
Rita Heiss graduated with a Degree in Business Administration and Economics from the University of Economy in Vienna. She has held managerial positions within several companies operating in the telecommunications and alternative energy sectors in Austria and Croatia. In her current role of Head of Finance and Accounting, Rita Heiss leads the Finance and Accounting Department at Vienna Airport, where she also holds the position of Executive Vice President. Rita Heiss was appointed member to the Malta International Airport Board of Directors in 2015.
Wolfgang Koeberl graduated with a Doctor of Laws from the University of Vienna in 2003, following which he obtained a Master of Business Administration in Aviation. He joined Vienna International Airport’s Legal Department in 2004. In 2011, Dr Koeberl was appointed Secretary General of the Management Board within the same company. In addition to this, he holds managerial positions in several affiliated companies. Dr Koeberl was appointed member of the Board of Directors of Malta International Airport in May 2016.
Florian Nowotny holds a degree from the University of Economics and Business Administration in Vienna and an Master in Business Administration awarded by INSEAD. He has also completed the Certified Financial Analyst programme. Mr Nowotny currently serves as Managing Director of a real estate investment and development company located in Vienna. Prior to this, he served as Chief Financial Officer of a listed real estate company and worked in the financial and banking sector in both Vienna and London. Mr Nowotny was appointed Non-Executive Director of the Board of Directors of Malta International Airport in January 2017.
Louis de Gabriele holds a Doctor of Laws from the University of Malta and a Master of Laws in Corporate and Commercial Law from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Dr de Gabriele currently heads the Corporate and Finance practice group at a top local law firm, which includes corporate, banking, tax, and insurance units. His area of expertise is principally banking, corporate finance, and mergers and acquisitions, areas in which he has been actively involved since the beginning of his career. He has led the team on a number of major projects and transactions, both for local and international corporations, and has been, and still is, actively involved in a number of capital markets projects. He has served as external legal counsel and Company Secretary for Malta International Airport since its privatisation in 2002.
Martin Dalmas holds a degree in Engineering from the University of Malta and a Master in Business Administration from the University of Maastricht. He started his career in the aviation industry more than 30 years ago with the Department of Civil Aviation, working within the engineering team responsible for the maintenance and development of the airfield. Ing. Dalmas joined Malta International Airport in the role of Technical Manager, and was later appointed Head of Operations. In this role, he has been responsible for aerodrome safety and regulation compliance, terminal and airside operations, airside infrastructure master planning and meteorological services, and was recently entrusted with the responsibility for business continuity planning. Martin Dalmas represents Malta International Airport on the Airports Council International Technical, Operations and Safety Committee.
George Mallia’s career in the aviation industry spans over more than 20 years. Mr Mallia worked within the Finance Department of the company that operated the duty free outlets for nearly 10 years, four of which were spent in the role of head. Following this, he joined Malta International Airport as Head of the Retail and Property Department, which is responsible for the company’s VIP product, car parks, food, beverage and retail outlets, advertising and SkyParks Business Centre. Mr Mallia was also crucial in driving the recent complete refurbishment of the La Valette VIP Lounge, as part of the company’s wider Terminal Reconfiguration Project.
Ian Maggi holds a Degree in Physics awarded by the University of Malta, as well as Chartered Marketer status granted by the Chartered Institute of Marketing in the United Kingdom. Having occupied posts related with process engineering, planning and customer account management, Mr Maggi gained experience and competencies in both technical fields and aspects related to business management. He joined Malta International Airport in 2008, and currently occupies the position of Head of the Innovation and Technology Department, which encompasses two units; the Innovation and Technology branch and the Procurement and Administration branch. In his role, Mr Maggi is involved in driving several company-wide projects, including the development of new products and the implementation of more efficient management systems.
Patrick Murgo holds a Master’s Degree in E-Business from the University of Malta. Mr Murgo served as a Lieutenant in the Armed Forces of Malta within the Maritime Squadron and later held the role of Operations Manager responsible for the Marine Unit within the Environment Protection Department. In 2009, he was appointed Director of the Civil Protection Department. Mr Murgo has held various roles at Malta International Airport, including that of Chief Fire Officer within the Rescue and Firefighting Services Department. In 2014, Mr Murgo was appointed Head of the Security Services Department, which is responsible for ensuring that Malta Airport provides a safe and secure environment for passengers, visitors, and employees, and maintaining a rescue and fire capability equivalent to ICAO CAT 9.
Tina Lombardi holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of Malta and a Master in Administration, Finance and Control awarded by the University of Bologna. Prior to joining Malta Airport, Tina Lombardi worked as an Economics Officer with the Paying Agency at the Ministry of Agriculture. She joined the team at Malta International Airport in 2007, working within two of the company’s departments. In 2015, Ms Lombardi was appointed Head of the Strategy and Business Development Department, where she was mainly responsible for the development and implementation of the company’s strategy and overseeing cross-departmental alignment. In 2016, she was appointed Head of Human Resources and Strategy, as part of the company’s commitment to strengthening its Human Resources Department.
A warranted engineer, Kevin Alamango obtained a Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Malta and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Henley Business School. After working as a computer programmer and in the manufacturing industry, with a focus on product and process development, he transitioned to building services, engineering management consultancy, and project management. In 2006, he set up a company offering consultation services in fields such as energy efficiency and renewable energy. Bringing with him a wealth of engineering experience, Ing. Alamango joined the team at Malta International Airport as Head of the newly reorganised Technical Services Department in 2017. Ing. Alamango is a member of the Malta Chamber of Professional Engineers and the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers.
Thomas Wohlfahrtstaetter holds a Master’s Degree in Strategy, Innovation and Management Control awarded by the Vienna University of Economics and Business. He also studied in Vancouver in Canada and Bangalore in India. Having worked in the investment banking sector with companies in Vienna and New York, Mr Wohlfahrtstaetter amassed valuable financial experience. He became highly conversant with business planning, forecasting, strategic control and reporting, while working within the finance team at Vienna International Airport. In 2017, he joined Malta International Airport in the role of Head of Financial Control, Risk and Compliance. Mr Wohlfahrtstaetter also serves as the company’s Data Protection Officer.
Alex Cardona was awarded a Master’s Degree in Business Administration by the University of Leicester. He gathered experience in both the aviation and hospitality industries while working for the national carrier and an international hotel chain having its base in Malta. Mr Cardona joined the Traffic Development team at Malta International Airport in 2013. Under his leadership, the traffic development team was successful in expanding Malta Airport’s route network considerably and attracting a number of new airlines to start operating from Malta. In 2018, Mr Cardona was promoted to Head of the Traffic Development and Customer Services Department, which was set up to enable the company to realise its vision of providing an excellent airport experience to every one of its guests.
