Roadworks on the Airport Campus

Mar 24, 2023 - 13:00

PHASE TWO

Malta International Airport would like to inform the public that the first phase of roadworks taking place on our terminal’s ring road is coming to an end and preparations are underway for the project to enter its next phase. Phase 2 of the project will commence on Sunday 26 March 2023 (evening) and will now include works on the terminal’s inner lane which will be completely inaccessible.

The latest diversions and changes are indicated on the map below (click to enlarge).

Plan ahead

These roadworks will not impact the main airport entryway and exits, however, some congestion can be expected at these two points. For this reason, persons who will be travelling in the coming days are advised to allow extra time for their journey, whether they are being dropped off, or driving to the airport and using one of the campus car parks. All car parks will be accessible throughout the project and the public transport will run normally.

Access to the terminal building

Given that the lanes directly outside the terminal will be inaccessible at different stages of the project, the building should always be accessed through Level -1 (indicated by orange broken line on the map) rather than the main entrance. All entrances on Level 0, except the entrance which leads from the taxi and mini-van drop-off area into the Welcomers’ Hall, will be closed. Guests are advised to always follow the directional signage to enter or exit the terminal building safely.

Since the terminal will not be accessible through Level 0, anyone using public transport will need to take the stairs or ramps that link the outer lane with the main car park to access or exit the terminal through the tunnel at
Level -1.

Pick-ups and drop-offs

Persons who will be dropping off or picking up someone are advised that a temporary area within the main car park (marked in yellow on the map) is being allocated for this purpose. The current grace period for users of the main car park has been temporarily extended to 30 minutes.

Malta International Airport employees stationed at critical points, together with directional signage, will indicate the routes that need to be followed by drivers and passengers while these roadworks are being carried out, as well as facilitate the flow of traffic. To retain a safe environment for everyone, drivers are kindly requested to observe the recommended speed limit of 30 kilometres per hour on the airport campus.

Updated information on the roadworks

Updated information regarding the status of the project will be uploaded on this page.

Malta International Airport would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused by these roadworks and appeals for the public’s cooperation in maintaining a safe environment for the duration of this project.
