Airside Safety Awareness Training

In line with EASA ADR.OR.D.017 Training and Proficiency Check programmes, all personnel that operate or provide services at the aerodrome and that are allowed unescorted access to airside areas of Malta International Airport shall be adequately trained and qualified in Airside Safety Awareness. Safety Awareness Training shall be undertaken in addition to the Security Awareness Training requirements.

The topics that must be covered during the ASAT course are:

  • Safety Management & Occurrence Reporting
  • Airside health & safety
  • Smoking, drug & alcohol policies
  • Airfield critical areas
  • Aircraft/Helicopter safety
  • Passenger safety
  • Foreign Object Debris
  • Adverse weather and low visibility operations
  • Aircraft manoeuvring area incursions
  • Wildlife management
  • Fire prevention
  • Airside Driving

Airside Safety Awareness Training (ASAT) may be provided through organisation-based classroom style courses or online courses hosted by Malta International Airport.

Applicants opting for MIA online training and certification course shall submit the Airside Safety Awareness Training Application Form (available here), on ASAT@maltairport.com. Applicants will subsequently receive an e-mail notification providing registration instructions to access the Malta International Airport’s e-learning platform.

Organisations wishing to deliver classroom-based training require MIA course delivery endorsement and will be provided with the appropriate training and assessment material prepared by MIA.
